The individual boxes that make up Dollhouse Vacation are small, nondescript exteriors with a singular viewing component: a peephole. Inside, light is shaped and manipulated by lenses, prisms, windows and mirrors to activate the interiors. Focussed attention is required in order to see into the space, and the picture is seen only by the viewer. This limitation suspends the self from our current culture of immediacy, virality, and media consumption. In short, the viewer becomes a voyeur, detached from their external surroundings and distractions.
The contents of the rooms are esoteric. Every detail of the interiors stem from the artist’s desire to think and act in deeper and more virtuous ways, even against the backdrop of daily duties and life challenges. Looking into each diorama is akin to peering into the subconscious; to enter a portal that reveals undiscovered yet existing mysteries within the framework of the artist’s own time-driven reality.
